An at-a-glance view of recent water quality and flows, and contributing factors affecting the spring and downstream water bodies.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) has loaned the District some advanced continuous water quality monitoring equipment for use at Manatee Springs. The District is working with the USGS to maintain the equipment and publish the data in real-time on its website, along with the existing continuous water level and flow data. The new equipment will provide continuous measurements of temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductivity and nitrate. These data will allow scientists and engineers to better understand the complex relationships between activities within the springshed and the observed flow and water quality at the spring. This will help focus efforts aimed at eliminating the existing impairment due to excessive nitrate concentrations.
